VESTAL, N.Y. — Alasdair Fraser scored 25 points and Maine defeated Binghamton 76-61 on Monday night in the America East Conference opener for both teams.
Maine led 38-20 in the first half, but Binghamton chipped away and cut the deficit to 51-48 with 10:17 to play in the game. Maine responded with a 6-0 run and the lead never dipped below seven points.
Justin Edwards added 15 points for the Black Bears (7-5, 1-0), who have won four of their past five games and five in a row in the series.
Maine shot 49.2 percent from the field (31 of 63) while Binghamton made only 37.7 percent (23 of 61).
Ben Dickinson had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Robert Mansell added 12 points for the Bearcats (0-13, 0-1).
BECKER 72, ST. JOSEPH’S 69: Terrance Favors scored 22 points as Becker College (6-3) outlasted St. Joseph’s College (6-3) at Leicester, Mass.
The Hawks never trailed in the game, but blew a 12-point lead in the second half. Matt Medeiros hit a 3-point shot for the Monks to tie the game at 53, but St. Joseph’s failed to take the lead.
Rajai Leggett scored 17 points for the Hawks. Freshman center Jerome Cohen added 14 and Yahmad Rountree added 12 in his first collegiate start.
Zach O’Brien led the Monks with 21 points.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
BINGHAMTON 72, MAINE 54: Vilve Rebane scored 26 points and had eight assists to lead host Binghamton (7-7) over the University of Maine (3-11) in their America East openers.
Brittany Williams scored 18 points for Maine and Samantha Baranowski had 11.
Maine led 23-19 with 6:21 left in the first half, but Binghamton ended the half with a 16-0 run.
COLBY 74, BATES 57: Rachael Mack’s 20-point effort helped her become the 15th Colby player to reach 1,000 career points as the Mules (7-1) defeated Bates (5-5) at Wadsworth Gym in Waterville.
Mack has 1,015 points. She has also reached 100 career blocks after making two.
Mack scored 14 points in the first half to help Colby take a 45-35 lead. The Mules opened things up by starting the second half with a 7-0 run.
Jill Vaughn and Aarika Ritchie added 13 points apiece for the Mules.
Bates got 13 points from Molly Brown.
WILLIAMS 71, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 49: Williams College (11-0) went on a 27-4 run during the first half on way to a win over UNE (6-2) at Biddeford.
Claire Baecher set the pace for the Ephs with 15 points, contributing seven points to the first-half run.
Senior Jill Greenberg scored 10 points in the first 20 minutes and finished with 14 points and seven assists.
Beth Suggs was the only player in double figures for the Nor’easters with 17.
MEN’S HOCKEY
COLBY 2, SALEM STATE 1: Ray Zeek scored the winning goal after picking up a loose puck in front of the net 1:51 into overtime as Colby College (3-6) defeated host Salem State (5-4-1).
WOMEN’S HOCKEY
TRINITY 6, SOUTHERN MAINE 2: Freshman Lucy Robinson and sophomore Lucy Glynn scored two goals apiece as Trinity College (3-6) downed USM (3-6-1) at Hartford, Conn.
Kailey Bubier and Erin Banfield scored for USM.
BOWDOIN 7, SACRED HEART 2: Kim Tess-Wanat had three goals and three assists for Bowdoin (2-3-2) in a win over Sacred Heart (5-10-0) at UMass-Boston’s Codfish Bowl Tournament in Boston.
