PORTLAND — The Red Cross has experienced a dramatic reduction in blood donations in recent weeks and issued an emergency call for blood and platelet donors.
Cliff Numark, senior vice president of Red Cross Biomedical Services, said the organization has less than a three-day supply of most blood types, well below the ideal five-day supply needed to respond to emergencies and daily hospital needs.
Donors can schedule an appointment by visiting www.redcrossblood.org, or by calling 800-733-2767.
