KENNEBUNK– The Southern Maine Steampunk Fair returns to Kennebunk’s Brick Store Museum on Saturday, Aug. 10.

“The Steampunk Fair is the zaniest event of the year,” said Brick Store Museum director Cynthia Walker, who added that attendees are encouraged to come in costume, or purchase one there.

“Not sure what “Steampunk” is? It’s the perfect marriage between history and future – a view of the world if Victorian aesthetics and steam power were in existence in modern day.,” she said. “Much like the design of “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” or “Sherlock Holmes,” Steampunk is a Victorian view of the future.”

Now in its fifth year, Steampunk Fair will take place  11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  on Aug. 10.  Tickets are $5 per person, $2 for museum members and free for kids under 16 years old.

The Steampunk Fair occurs on the Museum’s outdoor campus, inside the galleries, and at the adjacent Town Hall auditorium, There are demonstrations of artwork and craft-making; vendors; meet-and-greets with Steampunk author Leanna Renee Hieber; Tea Duels; live music by Oh’Anleigh; a costume contest; and Victorian lawn games, all with a futuristic twist.

Returning this year is the Steampunk High Tea, hosted by the Guild of Extraordinary Gentlewomen, at 1 p.m. Tickets to participate in the Steampunk High Tea must be purchased in advance. Tickets for the Tea are $30,and includes fair admission. . All proceeds form the he fair and the tea go to the Brick Store Museum’s year-round educational mission.

Folks can meet author Leanna Renee Hieber, and attend presentations on Steampunk fashion and historical fantasy writing. A “Maker Station “ offers make-your-own crafts and Steampunk-themed face-painting, plus henna and temporary tattoos. Agno3Labs will be there to create one-of-a-kind tintype photos for participants.

More than thirty vendors are to be featured with crafts and artwork priced from $5 to $500, with a variety of work including jewelry, lamps, leather work, perfume, antiques, lace and clothing. Food will be available for purchase.
