BIDDEFORD — George Henri Guerin, 91, of Biddeford, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice in Scarborough.

He was born on Jan. 30, 1924 to J. Sigisimond and Bertha (Auger) Guerin in Biddeford.

He graduated from St. Louis High School in Biddeford. He then joined the Army and served for six years during World War II.

On May 14, 1951, he married Claire Lemieux at St. Andre’s Church in Biddeford. They shared 56 years together before her death on March 10, 2007.

George worked as a painter for Charles Dionne before starting his career with the United States Postal Service in Portland. He started by sorting mail on trains and worked his way up to procurement. He retired in 1990.

In his younger years, George enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed gardening and local history. He would often frequent the historical society.

He is survived by: three children, Denise Guerin and her wife Ann Murphy of West Roxbury, Massachusetts, Jules Guerin and his wife Claudette of Limington, and Felicia Guerin of Dover, New Hampshire; a brother, Charles Guerin of Pompton Plains, New Jersey; a sister, Estelle Coryea of Salem, New Hampshire; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours will be 4-8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, 2015 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford.

A memorial service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28 at Hope Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in the spring.
