KENNEBUNK — Janet Moore Nest, 83, of Kennebunk, died early Sunday morning, Aug. 31, 2014 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Biddeford on Dec. 23, 1930, the daughter of Gordon and Erva (Smith) Moore.
She grew up in Wells, graduating from Wells High School, Class of 1949.
Shortly after high school, she spied a young man walking shirtless along the street in Kennebunk. She was instantly attracted to him, and on June 17, 1950, became Orrin R. Nest’s loving wife, a marriage that endured an amazing 64 years.
Janet was a factory worker at both Rogers Fibers, and the former Morningstar plant, where she worked with her best friend of 44 years, Gloria Brown.
She was also a homemaker with many varied interests. Janet enjoyed stock car racing, country music shows, Indian powwows, county fairs, and spending time up to camp. She had a strong love for animals and baking, and always enjoyed checking out discount stores and catching up on the local gossip. She became very actively involved in her children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities, hobbies and events.
Janet was a proud member of the Country Music Association and the Mousam Saddle and Harness Club.
Janet was preceded in death by: her stepbrother, Everett Moore of Kennebunk.
She is survived by: her loving husband of 64 years, Orrin Nest of Kennebunk; her son, Michael Nest and wife Roxanne of Lyman; her daughter, Judith Mullen and husband Thomas of West Kennebunk; her brother, Edgar Moore of Wells; her stepsister, Brenda Moore of Kennebunk; four grandchildren, Darrick and Becki Mullen, Matt Lude, and Dennis Leach; three great-grandchildren, Ava Mullen, and Cody and Cally Leach; lots of loving nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Buck.
Visiting hours will be on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk, where a funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept. 5, 2014 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Ruth Merriam officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Mullen Family Cemetery. Should friends choose, memorial donations in her name are encouraged to: The Animal Welfare Society, P.O.
