The 21st annual Oldtime Baseball Game later this summer will feature not one, but two Saco natives, as Sam Canales joins Jeff Gelinas as invitees to play in the game, which is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 25 at St. Peter’s Field in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Canales just completed his junior season at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, where he hit .274 in 26 games for the Polar Bears.
Canales got an invite with his Bowdoin connection, as a former teammate will be a coach in this year’s game.
Canales and Gelinas, who graduated two years apart from Thornton Academy (Canales in 2011, Gelinas in 2013), were teammates last year on the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
