WASHINGTON (AP) — IRS chief John Koskinen is defending himself against an election season impeachment effort in an appearance before the House Judiciary Committee.

Koskinen was scheduled to testify Wednesday on the drive by hard-line conservatives. They say he obstructed congressional investigations of IRS treatment of tea party organizations.

The drive has no chance of removing him from office. Besides solid opposition from Democrats, the conservatives’ drive has divided Republicans and won no backing from GOP leaders.

Koskinen says in prepared testimony that he’s been truthful and provided all the documents he could.
