OLD ORCHARD BEACH — The Code Enforcement Office has established a new schedule for those who want to stop by for unscheduled consultation.

The Old Orchard Beach Code Enforcement Office, located on the bottom floor of Town Hall, is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

For many years, the office has allowed visitors to the office to come in unscheduled any time during office hours, said Town Manager Larry Mead at a Town Council meeting earlier this month.

However, the staff is so busy that it is often difficult for them to get all their work done with constant interruptions, said Mead. The town has decided to designate walk-in hours when the public can come in unscheduled, he said.

Assistant Town Manager Louise Reid announced the new walk-in hours last week in a press release.

The public can now make unscheduled, drop-in visits to the Code Enforcement Office on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Tuesdays from noon to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Those who want to visit the Code Enforcement Office outside of these hours can do so by making a pre-scheduled appointment, according to Reid.

“The purpose of this new schedule is to allow adequate time for code enforcement officers to do field inspections, as well as do follow-up office work related to inspections and enforcement,” said Reid. “We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation in adjusting to this new schedule.”
