
He was born in Sanford on May 27, 1925, a son of the late Philias and Alphonsine (Paquin) Lavertu.
Mr. Lavertu retired in 1987 from Rochester Shoe after many years of service with the company. He was a longtime communicant of the Good Shepherd Parish in Biddeford. He enjoyed playing cards, going to the beach and people watching. A very family-orientated man, he enjoyed the company of his family. All who knew him will never forget his infectious smile.
He is preceded in death by: his wife, Merilda (Laitres) Lavertu; two brothers, Charles Lavertu, and Maurice Lavertu; and one sister, Jeanne Lagueux.
He is survived by: one son, Donald Lavertu and his wife Carol of Biddeford; a granddaughter, Laurie Lavertu and her fiancé Kevin Morin and his son Gavin of Biddeford; and a grandson, Kevin Lavertu and his wife Brandi and their children Gaston Will and Emma Grace of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, Oct. 6 from 6-8 p.m. at the Lafrance- Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter St., Sanford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church. Burial will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery.
