SACO — Simon Trcka scored three goals, including two in the second half, as Thornton Academy rallied past Gorham 3-2 in an SMAA boys soccer game at Hill Stadium Thursday.
The win kept the Trojans’ (8-0-2) unbeaten streak to start the season alive, while the Rams (6-1-1) suffered their first defeat.
Trcka put TA on the board first, as he scored on an assist from Dalton Moore.
The Rams tied the game up thanks to a TA own-goal off a throw-in. Cody Elliot was credited with the goal. Gorham went up 2-1 at halftime with a goal by Tyler Richmond.
Trcka got assists by Cam Twombly and Dan Marsh as he completed his hat trick.
Andrew Coleman (Thornton) and Trenton Bassingthwaite (Gorham) each made six saves in goal.
MARSHWOOD 1, SANFORD 0
SANFORD — Jason Janetos scored the only goal of the game as visiting Marshwood downed Sanford 1-0 in an SMAA boys soccer game at Cobb Stadium Thursday.
Lyle Carson had the assist for the Hawks (5-3-1), and Sam Leathe earned the shutout with 16 saves.
Tylar Burgess and Marcus Gould combined for 16 saves for the Spartans (3-6).
Girls Soccer
MASSABESIC 6, McAULEY 3
PORTLAND — Skylar Renuad scored a pair of goals as visiting Massabesic doubled up McAuley, 6-3, in an SMAA girls soccer game Thursday.
The Mustangs (3-5) also got goals from Natasha Silva, Neva Stevens, Alyvia Cormier and Madi Drain.
The Lions (0-8) got two goals from Claire Reed and a nother by Summer Bourque.
Field Hockey
OLD ORCHARD BEACH 4, McAULEY/WAYNFLETE 1
PORTLAND — Eryca Leclerc scored 65 seconds into the game and freshman Haylee Hinkle scored three goals as Old Orchard Beach beat McAuley/Waynflete 4-1 in field hockey clash Thursday.
Peyton Feitz fed Leclerc for the game’s first goal. The Flying Lions then tied it up on a breakaway goal by Isabella Edwards.
The Seagulls took back the lead before halftime, as Meagan Dyer fed Hinkle.
The two hooked up again in the second half, and Mikayla Grier assisted on Hinkle’s third and final goal.
Volleyball
BIDDEFORD 3, SOUTH PORTLAND 0
BIDDEFORD — Jocelyn Moody piled up 20 digs, 13 kills and seven aces to help lead host Biddeford to a three-set sweep of South Portland in a Class A volleyball match Thursday.
The Tigers won the sets 25-7, 25-11, 25-17.
Grace Boisvert, Julia Murray and Faith Tourigny each had three aces for Biddeford, while Kendra Cote had eight kills and Murray notched 11 digs.
LAKE REGION 3, WELLS 0
NAPLES — The Warriors dropped to 2- 8 on the year after a sweep at the hands of Lake Region on Thursday.
Michelle Desjardins led Wells with 10 assists and Isabelle Smith added four aces, four digs and three kills.
The Warriors also got seven digs, two aces and two kills from Olivia Muse and Alyssa Loukola finished with three kills, three digs and two aces.
Golf
BIDDEFORD 9, KENNEBUNK 4
KENNEBUNK — Five Tigers shot rounds in the 40s as they picked up a win at Webhannet Golf Club on Thursday.
Jason Vadnais fired a 41 to earn two points and low-medalist honors for Biddeford, which also got two points from Carter Burnell (46) and Ricky Ruck (50).
Kennebunk’s Owen Manahan would take down Biddeford’s Logan Magnant in match play despite both players shooting 45.
The Rams would also get 1.5 points from Spencer Desrochers, who also won match play over Mike Reisfelder, despite carding identical scores of 49.
Kennebunk’s Steven Anastas and Biddeford’s Kerry Crepeau would split the two points as they each shot 49 and were even in match play.
Biddeford (9-1) won the team count by a 230-241 margin.
MASSABESIC 9, SANFORD 4
ARUNDEL — Matt Prokey (44), Ethan Nugent (54) and Ethan Laverriere (56) all picked up two points to lead Massabesic to the win at Dutch Elm Golf Club.
Massabesic’s Caleb Roy (49) and Sanford’s Joey Burnham (50) would split their match, while the Mustangs’ Ben Poulin and the Spartans’ Dean Johnson would also earn one point each after carding identical rounds of 56.
Sanford would get two points from Matt Small, who shot a 46.
The Mustangs won the team point by a 250-264 count.
WELLS 7, WAYNFLETE 0
SCARBOROUGH — Shawn Ramsey was the low medalist, with a 39, as Wells swept Waynflete in a WMC golf match at Nonesuch River Golf Club Thursday.
Seamus McDonough and Tom Bucacci both shot 42s for the Warriors.
Will Lewis shot a team-low 46 for the Flyers while playing against McDonough.
Wells won the team medal. 167-201.
