HARPSWELL — Rita Ingrid Douglas, age 75, was struck and killed by a motor vehicle on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2015.

She was born on April 21, 1940, the daughter of Kurt and Gertrude Graffert Kitzler. She met her husband during his deployment with the U.S. Army. The couple was married in 1967, returning an settling in Maine in 1970.

Rita’s love and mission was to her family, though she had been employed at Grumbacher Co. (Brunswick/Lisbon), Cook’s Lobster House (Bailey Island), and JR Maxwell’s (Bath). She enjoyed walks, tending to her flower gardens, and exercising at Maine Pines (Brunswick).

She is survived by her husband, Robert Douglas; her son, Wolfram “Bill” Kitzler and his wife Dianna of Woolwich; three daughters, Blanche Champion and her husband Dennis of Ishpeming, MI, Terisa Douglas and her companion Ray St. John of Bowdoinham, Alexandra Douglas of Harpswell; two grandchildren, Harley Douglas of Harpswell and Derek Champion of Ishpeming, MI.

At the family’s request, a private memorial gathering will be held.
