BATH — Norma Edna Sturniolo, age 86, of Whiskeag Road, died on Thursday, May 10, 2018, at the HillHouse.

She was born on June 21, 1931, in the Bronx, New York, the daughter of David and Minnie Stepner Barlam.

Norma attended Walton High School in the Bronx and Hunter College in New York City where she received her bachelor of science degree in education and her master’s degree in special education.

On April 19, 1958, she married David Sturniolo.

Norma taught special needs children at P.S. 90 in the Bronx and was a counselor during summers at a special needs children camp in upstate New York.

Norma and her family moved to Brunswick, Maine, in 1970. Norma taught special needs children at the Rowe School in Yarmouth until retiring in the summer of 1992.

She enjoyed reading, traveling, attending stage shows and camping. In her retirement she loved to help special needs children and the aged. Norma was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church in

Brunswick.

In addition to her husband of Bath, she is survived by a daughter Debra Kopansky of Brunswick and a son Greg Sturniolo of Biddeford. Norma is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by four brothers William, Barney, Thomas and Gerald.

A private service will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff at the HillHouse and Beacon Hospice for all the kindness they extended to Norma and her family.
