BOWDOINHAM — Michel Carlos (Mike) de Lyra, 63, of Bowdoinham, Maine, passed away on June 30, 2015, following a period of failing health.
An independent soul with an appreciation and respect for the outdoors, Mike spent his life on the water, the slopes, and in the Maine woods. He made a living as a commercial fisherman, carpenter, and boatbuilder. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, skiing, and cutting a line through open water with his skiff. He believed in a job well done and tackled any project with enduring craftsmanship. His sense of humor, his infallible storytelling, and his penchant for pranks and foolishness will be missed.
Mike leaves behind his brother Geoffrey de Lyra and sister-in-law Lisa of Coopers Mills; sister Martha de Lyra Barker and brother-in-law George of Eliot; two nephews, Jacob George de Lyra and Ryan Lee de Lyra; two nieces, Elizabeth de Lyra Barker and Emma Frances Barker; and stepfather Gary McCormick of Brunswick. He is predeceased by his mother Elizabeth (Betty) de Lyra and father J. George de Lyra. He also leaves behind many dear and supportive friends in his community of Bowdoinham and Richmond, as well as Harpswell, Brunswick, and throughout the region.
A gathering will be held Thursday, July 9 at 3 p.m. at the gazebo, Mailly Waterfront Park, Main Street, Bowdoinham.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s memory to the Brunswick Food Bank, 84 Union St., Brunswick, ME 04011 or to the Bowdoinham Food Pantry, P.O. Box 246, Bowdoinham, ME 04008.
