BRUNSWICK — Cows blocked traffic briefly last week on Bunganuc Road.

A herd of Belted Galloways escaped from a fenced-in pasture and blocked traffic for about 15 minutes Thursday, police said.

About a dozen cattle crossed through a broken electric wire fence, stayed in a group and wandered across the road until Animal Control Officer Heidi Nelson and three police officers arrived.

The cows were sticking their heads in and out of cars, Nelson said. The cows’ owners arrived and tied buckets of feed to the back of their truck to lure them back to pasture.
