LEWISTON

The Maine Principals Association Individual Tennis Championships continued this weekend with action on Saturday at the Racquet & Fitness Center in Portland and Bates College in Lewiston on Monday.

In Round of 16 action at Bates, defending state champion Maisie Silverman of Brunswick defeated Sophie Hulbert of Portland, 6-0, 6-0, and got past Shashanna Moll of Belfast, 6-2, 6-0, in the quarterfinals.

 
 
Brunswick’s Ali Stankiewicz also made it to the Round of 16 Monday where she fell to Colleen O’Donnell of Waterville, 6-2, 6-0.

Silverman is set to take on Julia Brogan of Falmouth in one semifinal on Wednesday (9:30 a.m.), while Libby Voccola of Falmouth takes on teammate Olivia Leavitt. The championship match is set for 1 p.m.

For the boys, fifth-seeded Sam Leeman of Morse defeated Ben Shapiro of Waynflete, 6-1, 6-1, in the Round of 16 and then lost to Matt Gilman of Cape Elizabeth in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-2.

Boys semifinal play Wednesday has top-seeded Jordan Friedland of Lincoln Academy versus No. 4 Gilman and No. 3 Patrick Ordway of Waynflete versus No. 2 Brendan McCarthy of Falmouth.

In boys second-round play in Portland on Saturday, Leeman got past Austin Pohlman of Camden Hills, 6-0, 6-0.

For the girls on Saturday, top-seeded Silverman, got going with a 6-0, 6-0 second round defeat of Madeline Cook of Mt. Desert Island.

Also in second-round play, Stankiewicz got past Lan Zhou of Cheverus, 6-4 6-2.

In first-round play, Christina Levesque of Mt. Ararat beat Addy Fuller of Dirigo, 6-0 6-1. In the second-round, Levesque fell to 10th-seeded Devri Ramsey of Catherine McAuley, 6-1, 6-1.
