OXFORD HILLS — In a close game throughout, Mt. Ararat High School was able to stave off Oxford Hills 41-39 in overtime in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference girls basketball play on Tuesday.

The 2-0 Eagles trailed 14-7 after one quarter and 18-17 at the half, but jumped ahead 28-25 after 24 minutes.

The 1-1 Vikings battled back, forging a 35-35 deadlock through regulation.

In the Mt. Ararat effort, Caitlin LaFountain had 22 points, including all 10 of her team’s points in the second quarter, and eight rebounds. Mallory Nelson picked up a double-double with 13 points and 11 caroms, while Kristi Willey added four points and nine rebounds.

In the overtime period, Chelsea Crawford, Nelson and LaFountain each were 2-for-2 at the line.

Mt. Ararat shot 12 for 43 from the floor and 13 of 18 from the line, while the Vikings were 14 of 49 from the floor and six of 16 from the charity stripe.

For the 1-1 Vikings, Abbie Eastman popped in 20 points and Crystal West chipped in with eight.

The Eagles are slated to host Erskine Academy on Friday at 7 p.m.

BRUNSWICK 55
LAWRENCE 40

Host Lawrence jumped out to a 20- point halftime lead for a KVAC victory over 0-2 Brunswick at Fairfield.

“We started to play in the third quarter after not playing in the first half,” said Brunswick coach Sam Farrell, whose squad hosts Edward Little on Friday at 7 p.m. “It was a raucous crowd and the young kids didn’t handle it well.”

Anna Dimick paced Brunswick with 12 points, including eight from the foul line (the Dragons were 12 of 21). Julia Champagne scored all eight of her points in the third quarter, dished out four assists and had eight steals (“Julia was all over the place despite foul trouble,” said Farrell). Gillian Doehring chipped in seven points, while Lauren Carlton pulled down nine rebounds.

Dominique Lewis had 13 points and Paige Belanger 11 for Lawrence (1-1), which posted quarterly leads of 15-7, 34- 14 and 48-23 and finish

In KVAC Class B play, the visiting Shipbuilders fell to 0-2 with a visit to Medomak Valley scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m.

Christine Miller poured in 35 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Maranacook (2-0). Sarah Clough added six points and six steals, while Mariah Vining finished with nine points.

For Morse, Sadia Crosby led the way with 10 points, 17 rebounds and three blocked shots, while Signe Ostergaard picked up 10 points, dished out three assists and had three steals. Emma Harrington also scored 10 points and pulled down nine caroms.

HALL- DALE 50
WISCASSET 27

The visiting Bulldogs held Wiscasset (1-1) to just 13 points in the final three quarters in a Mountain Valley Conference win.

Trailing 14-7 after a quarter, Hall-Dale (1-1) pulled within two points, 16-14, at the break. A 17-6 third quarter scoring advantage gave the Bulldogs a 31-20 lead.

Natasha Brown had 14 points and Allison Crockett 10, along with 17 rebounds and five blocked shots.

Briana Goud led the Wolverines, who host Lisbon this upcoming Tuesday at 7 p.m., with eight points, while Kayla Gordon chipped in four points and hauled down a team-high 12 rebounds.

FREEPORT 33

Mary Perkins hit two of Cape Elizabeth’s three 3-pointers in final moments of the first half as the Capers handed host Freeport its first Western Maine Conference loss.

“It was a variety of things for us, foul trouble, couldn’t hit a shot, and they hit those 3-pointers on five possessions to end the first half,” said Freeport coach Jim Seavey, whose Falcons visit Lake Region on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Freeport (1-1) jumped on top 11-6 after a quarter, but the 1-1 Capers battled back for a 25-20 halftime lead. A 9-2 scoring advantage in the third quarter gave Cape Elizabeth a 34-22 lead.

Nine Davenport led all scorers with 18 points for Freeport. She played just 12 minutes and fouled out with five minutes remaining. Davenport pulled down five rebounds and had three steals, while Hannah Chase picked up five caroms. The Falcons were six of nine from the charity stripe.

Marlow Dell’Aquila had 11 points for Cape Elizabeth, while Perkins finished with 10. The Capers were 12 of 24 at the foul line.

RICHMOND 58
BUCKFIELD 19

The 2-0 Bobcats had 36 steals in rolling to an East-West Conference win at Buckfield.

Jamie Plummer had 27 points, eight steals and five rebounds for Richmond, which visits Rangeley on Friday at 5:30 p.m. Noell Acord chipped in eight points and six steals, Ciarra Lancaster seven points and Alyssa Pearson six.

Michelle Mazon had seven points for the 1-1 Bucks.

At the foul line, Richmond finished 11 of 23 and Buckfield one of nine.

ISLESBORO 21
HYDE 32

Diamond Brown tallied 15 points to lead the undefeated Phoenix (3-0) past Islesboro in Western D action.

Jailene Martinez chipped in nine points for Hyde, which hosts Seacoast Christian on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Bath.

Playing well for Hyde were Kara Fischer, Ally Craig and Autumn Johnson.
