GORHAM — The University of Southern Maine men’s indoor track and field team won its fourth Little East Conference title in the last five years Sunday at the annual New England Alliance and Little East Conference Championships held at the Costello Sports Complex.
The Huskies overpowered their five conference rivals, scoring 213 points. Rhode Island College was a distant second with 133 points followed by Keene State College with 97.
In the 10-team Alliance meet, featuring teams from the Little East and the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, Bridgewater State University edge out the Huskies for the top spot, 143- 129.50. Worcester State University was third with 107.50 followed by Westfield Sate University with 104 and Rhode Island College with 93.
Senior Parker Chipman of Pownal and junior Julian Gazzelloni were individual event winners in the Alliance meet. Chipman won the 600- meters in 1:22.0, while Gazzelloni captured the mile with his time of 4:19.53.
Qualified USM competitors will compete this upcoming weekend at the New England Division III Championships, which will be held at Tufts University.
