BRUNSWICK
Ramps on and off U.S. Route 1 at Cook’s Corner will be closed for four days this month to allow replacement of a pedestrian bridge spanning the southbound on- and off-ramps.
Work will begin Oct. 29 and be complete by Nov. 1, said Town Manager Gary Brown.
Signs and lighted message boards will warn motorists of the closure and direct them to detours.
Initial plans called for only one lane of the ramps to be closed, but safety and logistics dictated both lanes would need to be shut down while the new bridge is hung.
Plans to replace the bridge, part of the Androscoggin River Bicycle and Pedestrian Path, began last year after a dump truck struck and damaged the bridge’s substructure. The project will be paid for using $350,000 from an insurance settlement and $130,000 from the town’s general fund.
