BRUNSWICK — Jacob Towle, Jared Hummer and TJ Sullivan scored a goal each in the third period as the Brunswick High School boys hockey team skated off with a 5- 2 win over South Portland on Thursday at Sidney J. Watson Arena.

The Dragons won their fifth straight to improve to 8-1 and hosts Cony/Monmouth on Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Jared Parent, assisted by Sullivan, opened the scoring 4:31 into the first period, but Red Riots forward Chris Mitchell tied the contest with 1:46 left in the frame.

Jacob McGowan, off a setup from Parent and Sullivan, scored early in the second, but South Portland tied the game a second time when Kyle Halverson tallied at 5:13.

But, the Dragons owned the third. Towle, from Parent, gave Brunswick the lead just 1:17 in the final frame, and Hummer, from McGowan, and Sullivan, assisted by Nate Granholm put the Red Riots away.

Brunswick outshot South Portland, 36-8, with goaltender Devin Allard making six saves. Red Riots netminder Joe Grant had 31 stops.

“It was the third time this season we have scored three goals in the third period of a close game to earn a win,” said Brunswick coach Bill Bodwell.

Max Giard netted a hat trick as the Red Eddies (4-4) downed the Eagles, who fell to 1- 7 and hosts Leavitt on Monday at 4:15 p.m.

EL jumped out to a 3-0 first-period lead.

Devin Dumont made 15 saves in the win, while Mt. Ararat/Lisbon goaltender Jon Roux had 26 stops.
