Marshall was a simple man and had an immense knowledge of facts including the family history and would sit for hours and talk with those close to him. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and bee keeping. He also enjoyed gardening, growing corn and harvesting pumpkins for his family to enjoy. He was an avid Richmond fan attending all sporting events and would travel near and far (slowly) to watch a game.
