
She was educated in Puerto Rico, relocated to Brooklyn, New York in 1943 where she continued her education and graduated from High School in 1947.
Nilda had worked as a Railway Clerk for the City of New York. She moved to Staten Island, NY in 1960 and to Brunswick in 2001. She was a member and Past Commander of the Henry and Stanley Cichon Post American Legion Auxiliary in 1986 and Past County Commander of the Auxiliary in Richmond County. Nilda was a member of All Saints Parish and attended St. Charles Borromeo Church in Brunswick.
Nilda was predeceased by her first husband Joseph L. Mendez, her second husband Benjamin Mlyniec, a sister Nereida and a brother Hector Ferreras. She is survived by her sons,Joseph K. Mendez of Rockville, MD and Dr. Leonard Mendez and his wife Lisa of Topsham, six grandchildren, Mercedes Mendez-Swanson, Nina Mendez- Pottle, Rena Mendez- Flanagan, Diana Mendez, Joseph C. Mendez and Melissa Mendez, 14 great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held from 2-4PM and 6:30 to 8:30PM, Wednesday March 14, at Brackett Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11AM, Friday March 16 at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Brunswick.
