TOPSHAM — Beatrice Evelyn “Bea” Lavoie, 95, a resident of Topsham, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, at Hawthorne House in Freeport. She was born to Edmond and Laura (Lebel) Ouellette on July 15, 1919, in Peabody, MA. Bea grew up in Salem, MA with a sister (Jeannette) and two brothers (Edmond and Roger). She graduated from St. James High School in 1936 and on June 28, 1947, married Louis G. Lavoie, the love of her life.

Her family was always the most important part of her life. Once their two sons had grown, Bea returned to the workforce. She was employed by Parker Bothers and later retired from the state of Massachusetts as a personnel clerk.

After her husband passed away, Bea moved to Topsham, ME to be near the grandchildren she loved so dearly. She always liked music and took great pleasure in playing the piano and singing along with her family. Bea enjoyed baking and was renowned for her homemade pies and cakes. Many of her mornings were spent with friends at nearby restaurants swapping stories and sharing coffee. In her spare time, she crocheted blankets and lap robes for residents of local nursing homes.

Bea was a longtime communicant of St. John’s Church of Brunswick.

She is survived by her son William and his wife Alice Lavoie of Topsham, a grandson Robert and his wife Laura Lavoie of Portsmouth, NH, granddaughter Elizabeth and her husband Mark McDaniel of North Bend, OR, granddaughter Theresa and her husband Dennis McCartney of Topsham, g reat – g randsons Louis Lavoie and Leroy McCartney, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 132 McKeen St., Brunswick. Interment will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Salem, MA.
