TOPSHAM — The Topsham Parks and Recreation Department is offering fall programs, many starting in the near future.

Candlepin Bowling

The program begins Sept. 20 at 11 a.m., and runs for 10 weeks. This program takes place at 7 Dunlap Street in Brunswick.

The 10-week program includes rental of shoes, instruction and strings. Those bowlers who have previously bowled in a youth program will be considered as an advanced bowler. Teams will be formed for league play and a end of season tournament will take place.

The is $35 for Topsham residents, $45 for non residents within School Administration District 75.

Cross country

Will kick off on Sept. 15 at 5 p.m. at the Topsham Foreside Field Area.

Runners need to meet at the gated entrance at Riverside Field.

Practices will be every Monday and Thursday from 5-6 p.m. Meets will begin Sept. 24 on Wednesdays, and participants must provide their own transportation to Mid Coastal Communities. A schedule of meets and directions will be available during the first week of practice.

This program is available to children ages 6-12. Younger children (ages 6-7 ) will require supervision.

The cost to register is $30 and includes a team T-shirt. The cost is $45 for non residents within SAD-75.

Eagles field hockey

A fall travel team is offered for players entering grades 3-6.

Practices will be held on the Mt. Ararat High School field hockey field on Friday’s from 5:15-6:30 p.m. beginning on Sept. 12. The program runs through the end of October.

Games will be held on Sunday afternoons in a round-robin format (two games each day). There will be some travel to away games, and parents will be responsible for transportation.

The cost is $40 and is open to all girls entering grades 3-6 in SAD-75. Non-residents pay $45.

Equipment packages are available through the Rec. Department. Players must have shin guards, a mouth guard (molded), water bottle, sneakers or cleats, and a stick. Goggles are strongly recommended.

Baby Eagles field hockey

An introduction to field hockey clinics will be held for players ages 4-7, with Mt. Ararat High School coach Krista Chase leading the way.

Clinics will be held on Sept. 12, 19, 26 and Oct. 3 from 5:15-6:30 p.m. at the Mt. Ararat High School field.

The goal is to introduce youngest studentathletes to the sport of field hockey, with the priority that athletes have fun, move around and learn some basic techniques through developmentally geared games.

Parent participation is welcome.

Players need to bring shin guards, mouth guards (molded), water bottle, sneakers or cleats, a stick (Chase has a limited number of sticks to borrow, or parents may purchase a stick package at a reasonable price through the Rec. Department).

The cost is $25, which includes a T-shirt. Proceeds support Mt. Ararat field hockey.
