PORTLAND (AP) — A ferry captain and Portland Fire Department boat crew rescued four people from Casco Bay after their sailboat overturned in a squall as thunderstorms kicked up Saturday afternoon.

The Portland Press Herald reports that Casco Bay Lines Capt. John Tracy said he saw the four in the water and his crew tossed a life ring to one woman and pulled her aboard. He said the fire boat rescued the other three.

Tracy said he was afraid to get the ferry too close to the people because of how hard the wind was blowing.

The National Weather Service said winds at the Portland International Jetport gusted up to 40 mph and radar indicated winds of 70 mph near Peaks Island.

All four were said to be in good condition.
