GEORGETOWN
Three contested races for local office will be decided at the polls Tuesday, in advance of a town meeting Saturday, June 16, to dispatch a 55-article town warrant.
On Tuesday, voters go to the polls to decide a three-way race for the town clerk/tax collector post, a two-way race for selectman, and a two-way race for the Town-owned Property Management Board (TOPMB).
On the ballot for the Board of Selectmen are incumbent Dolores Pinette and Charles Collins, both of Bay Point Road.
For the town clerk/tax collector spot, the names of incumbent Kristen Coombs of Bowman’s Landing, Judith Duke of Bay Point Road, and Diane Longstreet of Meadow Wood Road appear on the ballot.
In the race for the TOPMB, incumbent Bronwen Tudor of Five Island Road will face off against Mark Donovan of Blueberry Hill Road.
For the town’s other local posts, the seats are uncontested: Mary McDonald, of Harbor Way, is running for reelection as town treasurer; Nina Roth-Wells of Williams Road is running for re-election to the school board; Franklin Pinkham of Seguinland Road is running for reelection as the cemetery trustee; and Dale Savoie of North End Road is running for re-election as the road commissioner.
Polls will be open from 7:50 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Georgetown Central School, 52 Bay Point Road.
Town warrant
A total of 55 articles are included on this year’s town warrant, accounting for a proposed $4,265,679 budget that comes in 0.8 percent above last year’s figure of $4,230,467, while decreasing the town’s property tax rate.
In total, the draft budget will seek to raise $15,098 less from local funds than last year, resulting in a slight decrease in the property tax rate from around $7.1 per $1,000 of valuation to around $6.9 per $1,000 assessment.
Under the proposed 2012-13 budget, most areas of town spending would see slight increases, offset largely by cutting the Town-owned Property Management Board’s funding in half from last year’s $100,900 budget.
The proposed budget also cuts nearly $5,000 from the general government budget while snow removal and town road costs both are set to increase around $10,000.
