OLD ORCHARD BEACH — On Sunday, baseball and softball players ages 7-14 throughout Southern Maine came out on a sunny afternoon to compete in the Aquafina, Pitch, Hit & Run baseball/softball competition at the Ball Park in Old Orchard Beach.

The Aquafina Pitch, Hit & Run competition is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball (MLB), and is promoted and administered in Maine by the Maine Recreation and Park Association. It’s a free national program that gives boys and girls ages 14 and under the chance to showcase their baseball/softball abilities.

A total of 67 local competition winners competed Sunday for a chance to advance on and compete at the Pitch Hit & Run Team Championship at Fenway Park in Boston in late June.

The all-around winners in each age category are eligible to advance, but their scores must first be compared to other Sectional Competitions throughout New England. The top three scorers in each age division, out of all New England Sectionals, have the opportunity to advance and compete at Fenway Park.

Among the winners was Jack Mullen of Freeport in the boys 11-12 division.
