BRUNSWICK — On Tuesday night, the Brunswick Junior High School baseball team nearly upset visiting undefeated Oxford Hills before falling, 5-4.

Oxford Hills (8-0) struck first, scoring three runs in the first inning.

Brunswick’s Evan Groat and Will Bessey walked, and Nelson Gay hit a hard hit line drive along the left-field line to bring in two runs to get the Huskies to 3-2.

In the third inning, Will Bessey hit a long drive to center field for a double, and Alan Molnar brought him home with a fielder’s choice to tie the game.

Groat scored another run in the fourth inning, while strong defensive efforts were turned in by Brett MacMillian, Caleb Cost, Ben Warner and Alex Larson.

Bessey was solid on the mound with four strikeouts and one walk. Joey Dougherty pitched the final two frames, allowing one run.

The Huskies had potential tying and winning runs in scoring position in seventh, but failed to convert.
