WALES — The Mt. Ararat Middle School seventh-grade softball team faced Oak Hill in a doubleheader recently.
In the opener, Oak Hill came away with a 13-11 victory. Charlotte Waterman earned the mound win with eight strikeouts, eight walks and seven hits.
Mt. Ararat’s Alana Weaver went four innings, striking out eight, walking four and permitting just one hit. Kristen Graffam threw the final two frames on three walks and four hits.
At the plate, Samantha Gonyea singled and doubled to pace the Mt. Ararat offense. Kieley Hetherington, Katelyn Cox, Mikaila Cloutier and Lauren Secone each singled, while Kate Guerin doubled.
Bre Mulherin paced Oak Hill with a triple.
The hitting continued in the second game, with the Eagles coming out on top this time, 12-10.
Cox singled three times, Guerin doubled and singled, and Graffam had two singles, while Olivia Merryman doubled for Mt. Ararat. Ana Knight and Hetherington both singled.
On the mound, Weaver went all seven frames, with five strikeouts and four walks. She allowed five hits.
Waterman went the distance for Oak Hill on 10 strikeouts, 10 walks and 11 hits.
