Dominic D’Alessio Sr. devoted husband, father and grandfather passed away early Friday morning, Nov. 29, 2013. He left this world in the way he would have chosen; lying in his own bed surrounded by family.

Born in Philadelphia on Feb. 25, 1923, of Italian immigrants, Antonio and Carmela (Leggera). The family came to Maine and settled in the Cathance/Bowdoinham area while he was very young. Dominic spent one year in the Cathance School and got the rest of his formal education at Bowdoinham. When he finished 8th grade he joined his father working in quarries as far as Rumford to contribute to the family income.

Although his school days were behind him he had a hunger for technical knowledge that he carried to the end of his life. While working with his father at BIW at the beginning of WWII he won an award for developing a time and labor saving method for joining ship sections using hydraulics.

He served in the U.S. Army (Amphibious Engineers) in the Pacific and took part in the American assaults in the Philippines and adjacent islands.

After the war Dom began working at his lifelong career in auto mechanics. He spent 17 years working at Ouellette Motors/Brunswick Transportation, a local Studebaker dealer and bus company.

During this time he met his lifelong soul mate Nancy J. Lamarre. They became Mr. and Mrs. D’Alessio on June 23,1951. They shared over 62 years of love and loyalty; their 3 children still reside in Brunswick.

He was a self proclaimed “jack of all trades” who studied oil burner maintenance at Boston Trade School, rewired more than 1 of his own homes, repaired televisions and took care of plumbing and carpentry and more for his home and those of family members. Even last winter he managed to “get his hands dirty” while directing his sons in the repair of his snowblower.

He loved watching TV sports and was a big Red Sox and Celtic fan but fall was his favorite sports season. He was a backer of the New England Patriots but his true color was New York Giants Blue all the way back to pre-AFL days. He followed them through good times and bad. Their Super Bowl victories held a very special place in his heart!

Another of his favorite leisure time activities was watching Westerns and “Gunsmoke” was his favorite by a landslide.

He loved his family and his homelife. Nothing brought a brighter light to his eyes than the smile and the laughter of a little child! The Lord gifted him with 3 children: Tony, Dom and Becky (Rice), 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by 3 brothers: Lewis, Paul and Tony and a sister Connie (Miller) along with several nieces and nephews.

He was a member of All Saints (St. John’s) Roman Catholic Church here in Brunswick. Funeral plans will be announced.
