BATH — Fire officials are asking residents to spend a few minutes with a shovel or snowblower clearing out fire hydrants when it snows.
After a snow event, the Bath Water District and the Bath Fire Department get increased calls for service, officials said, which often delays hydrant clearing.
Bath has more than 290 hydrants, which must be accessible for first responders in case of a fire. To clear a hydrant, make sure all ports are visible. Officials also advise staying out of traffic and keeping exertion to a minimum.
