
He graduated from Pembroke High and attended Portland Junior College. Leighton enlisted in the Air Force, and was stationed in Guam. After his discharge, he returned to Maine, settled in Portland and then Freeport. Leighton was a career truck driver.
He was born Sept. 30, 1929, in Portland, to Harland and Nettie Leighton Brown. On May 20, 1949, he married Eleanor Gilpatrick of Whiting.
Leighton is survived by his wife, their children, Brenda Curit, Craig Brown, his wife, Raelene, Jay Brown, and also daughterin law, Doreen Brown. He was predeceased by a son, Lee, and a daughter, Terri. He will be greatly missed by his family, including 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren with another expected. There will be a spring interment in Whiting.
The family thanks the staff of Freeport Nursing Home for the care given to Leighton during his time there.
