SOUTH PORTLAND – Loretta Ann (Clish) Stoehr passed to a brighter world at her beloved home in South Portland on Sunday, May 2, 2021 after a brief battle with cancer. She was born on Sep. 27, 1936, in Bangor, the daughter of Carl and Audrey Clish. Loretta had been a resident of South Portland for well over sixty years.
She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and she adored her dogs Sophie, Molly, and Missy. Loretta was a former employee of Golden Pheasant Gift Shop, Sears Optical Shop, and Fayva Shoes. In her younger years she enjoyed working as a bank teller in Portland. She was independent-minded, self-reliant, decisive, passionate, and self-educated. She had a great sense of humor and yet she did not suffer fools gladly.
Loretta was an avid reader and especially enjoyed British mystery novels. She also enjoyed movies, music, drawing, and painting. Several years ago, she was thrilled to attend a Johnny Mathis concert in Portland. Loretta finally got the chance to travel to Europe later in life when she visited her son in Austria and when she toured Europe with her older sister Barbara and traveled to Ireland with her daughter Trina. She beamed with pride and joy whenever she saw her two great-grandchildren.
She donated to animal shelters and for many years went door to door collecting contributions for the American Heart Association. She was also a member of the Longfellow Chapter of Eastern Star.
Loretta is survived by her sister Barbara Dodge of Garfield, N.J.; daughter Bonnie Reid of Gorham, son Kevin Stoehr of Wells, daughter Trina Stoehr of Sanford; granddaughter Lindsay Dube of Berwick; and great-grandchildren Waylon and Faye Dube. She was predeceased by her husband Robert Stoehr, brother Richard Clish, sister Mary Ellen Grac, and sister Donna Clish.
There will be a private graveside service for immediate family members at Brooklawn Cemetery in South Portland.
