The Cumberland-North Yarmouth School Board is working on a short-term plan to address school overcrowding following the failed referendum for a new primary school, members said at a meeting last week.
The budget for portable classrooms is now being reworked, according to SAD 51 board member Vanessa Bryant. In addition, the facilities department is looking into possible solutions.
“We’ll be looking at our long-term facilities plan and cohesively putting our next steps with regards to how we deal with space,” board member Mike Williams said.
Voters on Nov. 8 voted against borrowing $73.9 million for a new school.
Also at last week’s meeting, the board discussed a potential solar panel project for the district.
“We are looking to put together a presentation to the board and bring that forward in January,” Director of Finance Scott Poulin said.
