FREEPORT — The location of the permanently closed Stars and Stripes Brewing Co. on Varney Road is getting new tenants this summer after sitting vacant for over a year.

Fine Line Construction, which has been based in Freeport for 30 years, will move its offices from 194 Main St. ‌to the new space at 8 Varney Road at the end of June. The company also plans to open a cabinetmaking and millworking shop there in September.

Fine Lines Construction did not use a Fit-Up grant for the renovations at Varney Road, according to Freeport Development Director Brett Richardson. The grant program, administered by the town, has helped a number of local businesses and property owners restore or reconfigure commercial sites.

When this property came up for sale, it seemed like the perfect fit since finding commercial space in Freeport is tough, said Fine Lines Construction President Ben Duplissis. The office space at Varney Road is much bigger than Fine Lines Construction’s current location.

“We did a lot of work to that building, including wrapping it in new high-performance exterior insulation, new siding, all new interiors, new high-performance windows and doors, and have exciting plans for the landscape as well,” Duplissis said.

Fine Lines Construction used to be a design-build firm, but since the ownership transition in 2022, the company has focused on just building in collaboration with local architecture firms.

“(Fine Lines Construction) has a great staff of over 35 employees, and we typically build all the homes ourselves with in-house labor, so we prefer to stay within a reasonable range of Freeport,” Duplissis said.
