The owners of Other Side Diner in East Deering recently announced that they have sold their business after seven years.

A May 29 Instagram post from owners Peter and Jessica Sueltenfuss explained that their last day running the restaurant would be May 31.

“It was time for my wife Jess and I to turn the page, spend more time with family,” Peter Sueltenfuss said Wednesday. “The restaurant business is a very different business than it was when we first got involved 25 years ago. It was time to see what else is out there.

“Jess and I feel real gratitude for the people who have supported us for so long,” he added. “It’s been really wonderful to be a part of this community for as long as we have.”

The Sueltenfusses sold the diner to Danielle Dubois, who has been a line cook at Other Side for about a year. Sueltenfuss said Dubois’ partner, Dan Washington, will be helping her.

“She plans on carrying the torch,” Sueltenfuss said. “There will be some creative changes, but for the most part, it’s going to remain the Other Side Diner. Still that friendly neighborhood spot we created seven-plus years ago.”

Other Side Diner has been shut down since June 1 so Dubois can tend to licensing transfers. “She’s working to get it reopened as soon as possible,” Sueltenfuss said.

Sueltenfuss plans to be on hand at the diner for the next few months to help with the transition. “As soon as she feels she’s got her legs underneath her sturdy, I’m going to be walking away,” he said.
