Recent press coverage of the June 9 U.S. Senate Democratic primary contest has left much unsaid.
To be sure, the presumptive frontrunner, Graham Platner, has attracted large crowds and much journalistic attention. This is a disservice to other primary candidates, whose campaigns have few resources, and especially to the voters, who should have the opportunity to explore all contenders.
For example, David Costello, of Brunswick, has received only passing media coverage. This is unfortunate because he has had considerable experience in Maine and Maryland and abroad in designing and implementing programs that give him the insight in policymaking that will be needed in the U.S. Senate.
By slighting David Costello and other candidates, too many news outlets are shortchanging the public when it comes to selecting those whose actions and experience could have a profound impact on everyone.
