I’m going to try to not bury the lead here: the Democrats are disingenuous and deceitful.
This election season we’ve heard a lot of talk about affordability. Yet one of the most deserving and hard-working groups — tipped workers — still pay Maine taxes on tips because Maine has not conformed its income tax code to the federal tax code. I recently talked to a mother waiting tables at Red Robin; she told me how difficult it was to get by with Maine taxing her tips. The Democrats control the Maine House, the Senate and the governor’s office. It could have been done. It should have been done.
So, people should ask political candidates what their position is on Maine taxing tips. If they don’t like the answer, they should vote Republican.
