Kevin Thomas does not always write about baseball. It just seems that way, starting with his early days covering spring training for the St. Petersburg Times, to his current role of bi-locating at both Hadlock Field and Fenway Park, reporting on the Portland Sea Dogs and Boston Red Sox. In the off-season, he still writes about baseball, while venturing to hockey rinks and basketball arenas, especially when it comes to the University of Maine and local colleges. Thomas has received awards for his work, but his greatest prize is home, which includes one patient wife, nine children and an aging chocolate Labrador.

Running around the world
GORHAM — Logan Marshall, a standout distance runner at Gorham High, did not run for the Rams track team last spring.
Jackson Marshall also runs, and she loves to play lacrosse. Yet she skipped her first high school lacrosse season.
Logan, 17, and his sister Jackson, 15, still trained together. Their running workouts were irregular. And unforgettable.

Maine Marathon: ‘Perfect day’ for a long run
When the energetic and enthusiastic Jeremy Adler crossed the finish line Sunday morning, arms raised, it took only minutes for him to become chief spokesman for the Maine Marathon.
“This is the best course I’ve ever run on,” Adler said. “It’s so scenic. The crowd support is fantastic. They’re all cheering. I love the small marathon feel. Nothing beats it.”
Adler spoke clearly and without pausing for a breath, as if he just completed a walk in the park — which it seemed like, given Adler’s four-minute winning margin.

According to a wonderfully informative website (mlbcontracts.blogspot.com), Boston already has $100.5 million committed to 2011. That basically goes to 10 players, plus some bonus players like Jose Iglesias ($2 million) and Junichi Tazawa ($1 […]
