The town considered locating its recycling operation behind the fire station for the winter, drawing criticism Tuesday from residents who argued they were promised 24 years ago the fire station property would only be used for emergency services.

Due to structural issues found with the leased Recycling Barn, the town is considering temporary locations to house the recycling operation for the winter.

The selectmen diverged from the tradition of honoring a single resident every September for their contributions to the town, to instead recognize the hard work of the town’s many farmers who had to adapt to the pandemic as the demand for local food increased.

Selectmen voted to set the tax rate for 2020-21 at $16.87 per $1,000 of assessed value, which is an additional $80 for a home assessed at $200,000.

Bowdoinham selectmen agreed to pay the Maine Municipal Association $6,500 to lead the search for a new town manager after their former town manager, Tom Woodin, resigned in August after less than a year on the job.

A large truck snagged powerlines on lower Main Street in Bowdoinham Friday morning, knocking out power to 1,165 Central Maine Power customers for about an hour.
