Post 62, auxiliary install officers

The Stephen W. Manchester Post 62 of the American Legion and its auxiliary installed new officers in ceremonies on Wednesday at their headquarters on Dunn Street.

Patrick Peoples is the new post commander, succeeding Reggie Washby. Other officers are Mayor Bruce Chuluda, 1st vice commander; William Holmes, 2nd vice commander; Peter Patten, adjutant; Philip Curran, finance officer; Robert Harnois, chaplain; Elmer Welch, Americanism officer; and Ralph Green, sergeant-at arms. There were no candidates for service officer or historian.

Lloyd Woods, 1st vice commander of the Department of Maine, officiated with assistance from York County Commander Austin Colman and Bob Morrill, assistant adjutant for the Department of Maine.

Marylou Chretien was reinstalled as president of the post auxiliary. The auxiliary slate of officers also included Nikki Nielsen, vice president; Marie Carroll, secretary; Doris Rodriguez, chaplain; and Carol Reynolds, sergeant-at-arms, succeeding Cecile Green. Reynolds had previously served as secretary. Chretien also serves as treasurer.

First District President Carolyn Bourgeois presided over installation of the auxiliary officers. She was assisted by York County President Pat Colman and Mary Neal of South Portland Unit 35, who was sergeant-at-arms at the ceremony.

Strawberry shortcake was served following the ceremony.

Balloon animals to fly

Walker Memorial Library, 800 Main St., will present “Balloon Zoo,” a program for kids of all ages at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21.

Balloon animals will be created “before your eyes,” the library said, and the balloons will fly. Don’t miss the mayhem and the fun.

Blanchard to speak

Rev. Judith Blanchard will speak and Owen Sinclair will play the organ at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 12, at the Universalist Church, 719 Main St.

The last regular service at the church before the summer break will be on Sunday, June 19.

Hawkes, Wilson engaged

Faye Hawkes of Westbrook and Christopher Wilson of Windham are excited to announce their engagement. The couple was engaged in Boston on May 30.

Hawkes is the daughter of Richard and Lynn Hawkes of Westbrook and Wilson is the son of Ronald and Teddy Wilson of Windham.

A late summer wedding is planned.

Cutline (banas congratulations or banas receives) – Portland Postmaster Mike Fortunato congratulates Westbrook letter carrier Stan Banas on the right for 30 years of service to postal customers, awarding him a 30-year pin and a Certificate of Achievement.

Westbrook mail carrier honored

Raymond resident Stan Banas received a 30-year pin from Portland Postmaster Mike Fortunato in a recent postal recognition ceremony.

On behalf of the District of Maine, Fortunato thanked Banas at the Rand Road Letter Carrier Annex where he works and recognized him for three decades of employment with the Postal Service. Banas is a city letter carrier who serves in the Westbrook unit, delivering mail to Westbrook residents and businesses.

“Stan has given many years of excellent service to our organization and to our customers. We sincerely appreciate his long career and distinguished record of achievement,” said Postmaster Fortunato, who is responsible for mail delivery in Portland and its surrounding suburbs.
