Doucette joins Maier
Elisa Doucette of Gorham has joined the Maier Insurance
Agency, 844 Roosevelt Trail in Windham, as an associate agent.
The agency, a direct writer for Nationwide Insurance, also offers offers property and casualty insurance for both individuals and companies through other providers.
Prior to joining the Maier Agency, she worked for State Farm Insurance in Scarborough for three and one-half years.
Morton on dean’s list
Leanne Morton, a senior majoring in elementary education, was named to the dean’s list for both the fall and spring semester at St. Joseph’s College in Standish.
Morton is the daughter of Bruce and Dianne Morton.
Saccarappa Boys in Gazebo concert
In the free summer concert series, the Saccarappa Boys will play from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9, in the gazebo at the Municipal Center on Main Street.
The series is sponsored by the Gorham Recreation Department.
Baxter Museum tours
The Baxter Museum, next to the Baxter Memorial Library at 71 South St., is open for tours 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Aug. 30. The home will also be open 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 20.
Tours are free but donations are accepted.
The museum was the family home of Percival P. Baxter, a Maine governor. James Phinney Baxter, who was the governor’s father, gave the house, built in 1797, to the town in 1908.
Knights hosting breakfast
St. Anne’s Knights of Columbus Council 10221 will participate in Gorham Days by hosting a breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20 at St. Anne’s Church, 299 Main St.
The Knights will be serving scrambled eggs, pancakes and sausages along with coffee, juice and milk. Tickets, available at the door, are $5 for adults; $2.50 for children under 12; and $15 for a family.
With more than 1.6 million members, the Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic family fraternal service organization. It provides members and their families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Catholic Church, the community, families and young people.
50 years ago
The Westbrook American reported in its issue of Wednesday, Aug. 3, that Maurice M. Whitten, the newest member of the faculty at Gorham State Teachers College and formerly of Lewiston, had purchased the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Cilley on Lincoln Street.
