Trio honored

Three University of Southern Maine students from Westbrook received awards at the university’s annual Recognition Day last spring.

Hadje A. Esmiller, an accouting major, has been awarded the George D. Woodward Accounting Scholarship. He is a 2003 graduate of Westbrook High School and the son of Alex and Loreta Esmiller.

Angelica Kimball, a linguistics major, has been awarded the Lunders Scholars Grant. She is a 2003 graduate of Westbrook High School and the daughter of Sharon and Wayne Kimball.

Elizabeth Noonan, a piano performance/pedagogy major, has been awarded the USM Chapter of the Associated Faculties of the University of Maine System Scholarship and the Lunder Scholars Award. She is the daughter of Daniel and Kim Noonan.

Parliamentarians to meet

Thomas B. Reed Unit of the National Association of Parliamentarians will meet at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1, at Walker Memorial Library, 800 Main St.

Childrens’ fall programs at Warren

Warren Memorial Library, at 479 Main St., will start story times again during the week of Sept. 12 with new starting times for two programs.

Books and Babies will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesdays. Those attending are asked to use the left-side auditorium entrance, since the main library doesn’t open until 10 a.m. Tales for Toddlers will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays and Preschool Story Time will continue at the regular time of 1 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Knights to sell raffle tickets

The Knights of Columbus, Council 2219, will be selling raffle tickets for “Pro-Life” on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 10 and 11.

Prizes include $600, L.L. Bean Certificate, a week in an ocean front cabin on Chebeague Island and 25 pounds of lobsters. Tickets are $2 each or six for $10. For more information, call Marcell or Marie Fredette at 854-9993.

Sappi golf tourney

Cliff Wescott said the Sappi golf tournament would be held at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Gorham Country Club on the McLellan Road in Gorham.

McKenzie to address historians

Lyn McKenzie of Falmouth will speak on the topic “Preserving the Past” when the Westbrook Historical Society meets at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the society’s headquarters, 17B Dunn St.

The program will follow a business meeting and refreshments will be served. The public is invited.

The society’s museum is open from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.

Legion meetings resume

The Stephen W. Manchester Post 62 of the American Legion will resume its monthly meetings at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 17 Dunn St.

Father-son team compete

The father-son team of Layne and Steve Graffam competed in their fourth Banknorth Beach to Beacon 10K race this year.

Layne clocked in at 47 plus minutes and Steve at 51 plus minutes. No strangers to competition, they also play together on the Portland Masters United men’s soccer team.

John and Virginia honored on 60th

John and Virginia DiBiase of Bernadette Street, lifelong residents of Westbrook, received a visit from state Reps. Tim Driscoll and Bob Duplessie on the occassion of their 60th wedding anniversary.

They were presented with a legislative sentiment honoring their many years of marriage.
