After reading Mr. Chuluda’s comments in last week’s AJ, I feel it is necessary to address his statement that his office has communicated with the public more than any recent administration. Communication is about being proactive, not only reacting when people come to see you during office hours. In fact, I would dare say Chuluda has communicated the least of any previous mayor. Can one say Stroudwater Street bridge? Paper streets? And perhaps even the police contract? Communication begins with keeping the City Councilors informed. In all three of the above items I mentioned, this administration failed, no, chose not to, inform the current city council members before his decision was made and it became too late. How can one communicate with the public when he chooses not to communicate with the city councilors? As a former two-term president of the Westbrook City Council, I can assure you that Chuluda’s communication skills are lacking. One thing is for sure – he should have taken lessons from former Mayor Lefebvre who always kept the City Council informed of important issues. I guess sometime the ego is just too big for the job.

This is one of many reasons why I support Jim Violette for mayor of Westbrook. I worked with Jim when we were both members of the Planning Board and City Council. We are also in the same profession and have shared many ideas regarding business and city operations. He is without a doubt the most qualified person for mayor. He cares about Westbrook. He cares about the people in Westbrook. Most importantly, he is a proactive person, and leader, who will be sure to involve others in the decision making process.
