A Westbrook Public Services Department employee escaped injury after a sidewalk plow he was operating rolled over on William Clarke Drive about midnight on Dec. 21.

Public Services Director Tom Eldridge said last week that he was still not sure what caused the plow to roll over. He said the driver had just gone around a turn and the pavement was dry when the machine suddenly tipped over.

The plow’s operator, Jim Webster, was not seriously hurt in the incident, Eldridge said. “He had some bumps and bruises but he’s fine,” Eldridge said. Rescue crews took Webster to a local hospital as a precaution, and he was treated and released, said Eldridge.

Eldridge was not sure as to the extent of the damage to the plow. He said it did not appear to be seriously damaged, but some windows would need to be replaced.
