The Maine Association of Police held their annual awards banquet at the Italian Heritage Center in Portland Jan. 21. Among the award recipients were Greg Tinsman of the Cape Elizabeth Police Department and South Portland Officer Bob Libby.

Tinsman was named the communications officer of the year, and Libby received the officer of the year award.

Executive Director of the Maine Association of Police Paul Gaspar worked with Tinsman in Cape Elizabeth for many years. Gaspar said Tinsman’s work in dispatch is exemplary. “He has a tremendous capacity to make people feel at ease,” he said. “He has an uncanny gift for empathy.”

Tinsman has worked as a full-time dispatcher in Cape Elizabeth for 14 years, prior to that he worked part-time as a patrol officer since 1974. Tinsman said he was honored to receive the award.
