On Thursday, Feb. 2, the Scarborough High School wind ensemble will be performing as one of the featured bands in a special concert at Gorham High School to celebrate the culmination of their band residency with Dr. Robert Spradling of Western Michigan University. The wind ensemble was invited to perform at this event by Dr. Peter Martin of the University of Southern Maine.
Spradling is director of bands and conducting at Western Michigan University School of Music and was former director of bands at Syracuse University. As a guest conductor and clinician, he has been active nationally and internationally at clinics and conferences as well as with amateur and professional ensembles. His articles have been published in The Instrumentalist, Journal of Band Research, Journal of Research in Music Education, and Band Director’s Guide. He has received the American School Band Directors’ Stanbury Award and the Kappa Kappa Psi A. Frank Martin Award for leadership in the music profession.
The SHS wind ensemble is the only local high school band performing in this concert. Other bands performing will be the Casco Bay Concert Band, the USM/Bank of America Youth Wind Ensemble, and the USM Concert Band.
The concert will be held Thursday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m., at the McCormack Performing Arts Center at Gorham High School. Tickets are available at the door, $7 general admission, and $5 for students and seniors. All are welcome to attend.
