Westbrook girls win league

The Westbrook girls team recently won the title in the 5th and 6th grade division of the Freeport Community Education Travel League, topping Windham, 41-39. Celtics top Westbrook Rec League

Ian King hit a turnaround jumper with just three seconds remaining earlier this month to give the Celtics a 35-34 win and the Westbrook Rec League 5th and 6th grade boys championship. Falcons soar at wrestling meet

Three wrestlers from Wescott Junior High School took first place at Saturday’s Sanford Middle School Invitational. Preston Peabbles, who won on a last second takedown that broke a 1-1 tie, joined teammates Stephen Sawyer and Andrew Drouin in the winner’s circle. In addition, Glenn Emery and Harrison Strondak each finished in third place in their weight classes, while Matt MacDowell took fourth. Craig DiBiase, Magnus Lewis, Terry Webber, Craig Champagne, Caleb Depalma and Kyle Kirkpatrick also had wins for the Falcons, which sent a team of 17 wrestlers to the meet. Everyone wrestled tough and represented the school and community well. Wescott’s next home match is this Thursday against Marshwood at 4:00 p.m.

Hoop tourney comes to town

The 14th annual Paper City Classic, a basketball tournament for fifth and sixth grade girls, will be held March 21-26 at Westbrook High School and Wescott Middle School. Teams from throughout southern Maine will be playing in the double elimination tournament, and medals, ribbons and T-shirts will be distributed to the players. The host team from Westbrook starts off the competition when they meet Bonny Eagle at the middle school Tuesday at 5:45 p.m. Gorham will tip off Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Falmouth. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for those under 18 and is valid for all games on that day.
