(Gorham grave stone) – Tabitha (Longfellow) Lewis was born under British rule on Oct. 9, 1774, six months before the American Revolution began with the “shot heard the world” on April 19, 1775, in Lexington, Mass. She married Lothrop Lewis on Jan. 20, 1794, and they lived in West Gorham. She died at 32 on April 15, 1807. Her nephew was Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, who wrote the poem “Paul Revere’s Ride.”
