The former Gorham Town Hall on College Avenue was a gift from the town to the University of Southern Maine in 1961. The town acquired the building in a trade with Toppan Robie in the 1800s. It had been built in 1821 as a church and now houses the university’s art gallery. Robie gave the Civil War memorial, on the right, to Gorham in 1866. An inscription on the monument says, ” To the memory of the sons of Gorham who sacrificed their lives for their country in the great rebellion of 1861.
