Despite the rainy weather during the week, all of the games were made up on Saturday to complete the first week of 2006 Westbrook Little League season.

Westbrook Kiwanis remains the only undefeated team in the league. They defeated Phoenix Welding on opening day, 15-6. Joe Dvilinsky led the way with three hits, while Ryan Lebel hit the first home run of the season. WK kept on winning with an 8-3 victory over Sappi. Noah Collins had a triple and two RBIs for WK while Jake Limanni and Dvilinsky held the Sappi team to three runs. In their final win of the week against Prompto, Zack Bean had five hits and D.J. Breunig added three as they cruised to a 18-1 victory. Bean also pitched three scoreless innings as well.

In the battle for second, Tickets Unlimited and the Eagles are tied at 3-1 with their only losses coming at the hands of each other during the first week. Tickets Unlimited opened the season the same way they ended last season, with a big win. Tickets defeated the Eagles, 12-6, scoring at least one run in every inning. Brandon Steele and Andrew McCarthy scored four times each with seven hits between them. Mike Pena added two hits and pitched three solid innings, striking out seven batters. The Eagles made several runs at Tickets, being as close as 7-6, but were the victims of bad luck, hitting the ball hard into two rally-ending double plays. Paul Patriotti and Matt Moody both had two hits for the Eagles.

Tickets Unlimited jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first inning against the Lions, cruising to a 16-6 victory on a very cold Monday evening. Mike Pena went 4-for-5 for Tickets, including a homerun. Blake Toth and Trevor Driscoll had three doubles between them, adding to the offense. Ryan Chute pitched solid in relief for the Lions, while also collecting two hits in the game.

After a tough loss to the Eagles on Friday night Tickets came back on Saturday to win a barn burner, 2-1. Great pitching on both sides, with no walks, was the key to this game. Kevin L’huereux and Alex Bensen pitched great for Dairy Queen, only allowing two runs. Jeremiah Steele and Derek Bouchard allowed one run in their combined effort for Tickets. Marty Pena was the game hero for Tickets, stepping to the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning with two men on and two outs and lacing a single to centerfield for the game-winning hit.

After losing to Tickets on Opening Day, the Eagles won three straight to move into a tie for second place. First it was a 15-2 victory against Dairy Queen. Joe Quinlan led the way with three hits while Craig DiBiase, Paul Patrotti and Adam Begos chipped in with two hits each. In the key game of the week, the Eagles defeated Tickets, 10-6, in seven innings. The Eagles, who were leading 6-2 in the 5th inning, watched Tickets tie the game with three hits, including a big double by Branden Rogers. However, the Eagles scored four times in the seventh to ice the victory. Adam Begos pitched three strong innings and added three hits as well. Joe Quinlan picked up the win in the seventh inning and also had three hits for the Eagles. In the final game of the week, the Eagles defeated the Lions, 10-3, behind the strong pitching of Matt Moody – three shutout innings with eight strikeouts. Will Batherson and Collin Joyce had two hits apiece for the Lions.

In other Opening Day action, Prompto defeated Sappi 2-0 in the pitching duel of the day, and the Lions edged the Dairy Queen, 8-7, in another thriller.

For Sappi, Trevor Bates pitched five scoreless innings in the first two games and also had two doubles. Rookie Zach Boucher had basehits in both games as well.

Action continues five nights a week at the Joseph Warren Complex with games beginning at 5:30 pm.
